Art Club will be working with a variety of mediums and methods. It is open to all students.
Center Stage is entering its 21st season. Auditions are open to 7th or 8th grade students.
Do you want to risk your rooks, play your pawns, bash your bishops, and control an entire wooden army of powerful figures? If you answered yes, join the HMS Chess Club today! Whether you are new to Chess and just learning, fabulous at Chess and looking for a worthy opponent, or in-between and looking to have some fun… All are welcome!
Do you like to argue? We know you do! Join Debate Club and learn how to research, organize and develop debate topics of your choice. We will focus on speaking and presenting information in a persuasive format. Formal debates will be held a few times each quarter (dates TBD). Bring your controversial ideas and be prepared to argue for the win!!
The Drama Club
Active members of the international thespian society. Some activities include; touring North High theatre, participating in activities in downtown Downers Grove, our holiday inappropriate gift exchange, “Graffiti Garbs”, and many improvs and theater games.
Family and Consumer Sciences Club (FACS Club)
FACS Club Explanation: FACS Club is a great club for anyone interested in cooking, sewing, working with children, or interior design. The main focus of the club is cooking. It provides students with an opportunity to gain experience in the kitchen with measuring ingredients and using everyday equipment.
The Herrick Green Team is looking for students with a green thumb! The Green Team is responsible for maintaining the outdoor classroom and garden beds around Herrick. Additionally, we will cleanup debris that accumulates around the Herrick Grounds.
Guitar Club is a place for all students to learn more about the guitar and hang out with others interested in all things guitar. No experience necessary, just helpful. Having a guitar is not required, but is helpful. The club starts in January and ends in March.
Hula Hoop Club
This club is for anyone who wants to learn more about how to have fun with a hula hoop. Beginners and people who already know how to waist hoop are welcome. The club will include some instruction, basic hooping, some tricks, and fun music. The club will meet outside in the fall and spring.
H.O.P.E. Helping Ordinary People Everyday
This is a service organization concentrating on local versus global philanthropy. Our goal is to do service out in the community to help people locally while letting students build character and leadership skills.
Intramurals give students an opportunity to compete in different sports in a league format. Students are expected to sign up so they can be placed on a team to play against other teams made up of Herrick students. League champions of each sport are awarded Herrick Intramural t-shirts at the end of the season. Sports can include flag football, indoor soccer, basketball, floor hockey, 3 On 3 basketball, and dodge ball.
Lunchtime Library Book Events
Each library event will be based on different books and themes. Students will compete by answering trivia questions on popular youth fiction!
Media (Broadcast) Club
The Media Club meets twice a month in the LRC starting in October and goes through April. Members will have the opportunity to about photography, video editing, podcasts. Members will work with partners on projects and promotional material.
The Herrick Robotics Club is for students interested in learning about computer programming and working together to build Lego EV3 robots. Students will be given design challenges in order to prepare for two competitions in the spring. Club members are required to commit to attending all meetings and the competition.
Spartan Spirit Club
Come and support our athletic teams. SPIRIT stands for Students Positively Involved in Rooting for our Incredible Teams. Students in this group may earn special privileges at home games.
The purpose of the student council is to make Herrick a fun place to be! Students plan school spirit days and sponsor a school dance in April. A popular fundraiser to help cover the cost of the dance is the Snack Shack. Snack Shack is open before home games until 4:00.
Do you like to play Board Games, card games like Magic, or any other type of games? Do you just want to meet some new friends? Then Unplugged (Game Club) is the right club for you. We have a lot of fun, snacks, and it’s a great opportunity to meet new people in a relaxed setting.
Feeling stressed? Relax in yoga club! Come learn some basic poses, breathing and visualization techniques. Learn how to become mindful both in and outside of school. All are welcome. Bring an open mind – yoga mats will be provided!
